In mid-June, enjoy the medieval re-enactment, the most important festival in Cortona. The week begins with medieval markets, and the whole city returns to the customs and traditions of the past. They create beautiful baskets, swords, daggers, bows, leather-bound books, masks, medieval jewels, and use Cortonese florins as the currency.
A scent buzzes in the air, ancient flavors mingle with ancient crafts … A lot of delicacies soften the palates of those who let themselves be tempted.
In the weekend then there is the flags game with three flagflyers groups. The flagflyers and musicians of Cortona perform an amazing flag-flying show in the rhythm of medieval music, making the audience’s hearts skip a beat at every flag throw.
Also an Historical Recognition of the Marriage between Francesco Casali and Antonia Salimbeni will be presented during the Festival. The representatives of the 5 districts of Cortona meet to pay homage to the newlyweds! Flagflyers and musicians of Cortona perform amazing flag throwing shows.
On the last day, the whole city is excited for the crossbow competition: ladies, knights and children dress up in beautiful medieval clothes along the streets of Cortona, at the fast rhythmof drumming.
The square today is a triumph of colors, drapes, and flowers. They announce the entrance of thedistrict one by one. The tension rises when, at the roll of the drums, the first jumper is called to compete. The jockeys test their skills, trying to hit the center of the target, a dot almost imperceptible.
