44 Km from Cortona
Pienza is the most important town in Vall D’Orcia and in 1996 the historic center was declared an Humanity property by Unesco.
Almost unknown until 1462, it was rebuilt as requested by Pope Pio II who was born in the town.
During the Second World War, Pienza was one of the bases for partisans and for this reason the town has received a lot of honours.
Things to see: the Gotic Cattedrale dell’Assunta, as well as many old palaces from the tenth Renaissance period.
Don’t miss out tasting the typical Pecorino cheese from Pienza.
